Denver Broncos free agency predictions: Defensive backs

Safety

After investing heavily in the secondary in the 2021 offseason, it could be a little more conservative at that position group in 2022.

I still think the Broncos will make some acquisitions, but they might be players the team takes a shot on rather than players they sign in free agency to build around.

Justin Reid once looked like he was on his way to becoming one of the premier safeties in the NFL but his situation in Houston has not been going well and his play has suffered as a result.

Unless there are a bunch of teams lined up for him, I think the Broncos should be able to get Reid on a very reasonable deal to pair up with Justin Simmons unless they view Caden Sterns as the unquestioned starter in that spot for 2022.

Cornerback

The Broncos have their two starting positions locked in with Patrick Surtain and Ronald Darby. Could we see Bryce Callahan back in 2022? Perhaps, and his services in the slot would certainly be welcome.

However, a pair of former Vikings first-round picks happen to be hitting the free agent market as decent flyer options along with Michael Ojemudia, who is already on the roster.

I think the Broncos could get both Mike Hughes and Jeff Gladney for reasonable contracts if they are comfortable with the off-field evaluation on both guys. Obviously, that’s a big question mark but those two guys are recent first-round picks with talent that can contribute both inside and outside with future starter upside on the outside as well.
