The Denver Broncos have already made one big trade this week and there is at least one more that should be intriguing to the team.

The Broncos already acquired quarterback Russell Wilson in one of the biggest trades in league history, but the team also has to put the right players around the new face of the franchise.

For a quarterback, that often starts with the offensive line, and according to reports, the Dallas Cowboys are looking to deal offensive tackle La’el Collins.

What would it cost for Broncos to land La’el Collins in a trade?

Collins has a high cap number at $15.25 million heading into the 2022 season and the Cowboys, a team already over the salary cap at the moment, are looking to create some financial wiggle room.

The Broncos have already traded away their first and second-round picks in each of the next two drafts in order to obtain Wilson, but they might be able to entice the Cowboys with a package of later picks for the offensive lineman. Or perhaps just one pick would get it done.

If the Broncos could pull off the move, it wouldn’t be without some risk.

Collins was suspended for five games last season due to a violation of the league’s policy against substance abuse. He also missed the entire 2020 season with an injury.

But when he has been on the field, he has been a force. Collins has started 71 games in his career and as a run-blocker, he is solid. He stands up as a pass protector as well and would be a significant upgrade over last year’s right tackle, Bobby Massie.

Right tackle is one of the Broncos’ biggest positions of need heading into the offseason but having traded away their first two picks, they may not find a quality starter, at least not one who could be more productive than a guy like Massie right away.

The free-agent market is not promising at that position either, so trading for Collins could make even more sense.

The Broncos are going to want to protect their new investment, Wilson, at all costs. The Los Angeles Chargers just traded for one of the best quarterback hunters in the league on Thursday when they acquired Khalil Mack from the Chicago Bears. That makes the need to upgrade the offensive line even more pressing.

This would be a perfect move. If the Cowboys want to move Collins, George Paton should have already made the call to check the price.
