The Denver Broncos have roughly $40 million in cap space for free agency. This article covers one free agent from each team that the Broncos could sign.
Free agency is a fun and interesting time period. With the Denver Broncos having around $40 million in cap space, they have the capacity to sign multiple high-profile free agents if they want.
Keeping with the free agency fun, this article will list one free agent from each team that the Denver Broncos could and should sign.
Obviously, Denver isn’t going to sign 15 free agents like this, but targeting some of these players would be to their benefit.
They have a few holes and have the money to bolster their roster for the arrival of a potential significant quarterback upgrade.
I think most of the players in this article will be on defense, but let’s get started.
Denver Broncos: Free agents from the AFC West
Kansas City Chiefs – Tyrann Mathieu, S
Tyrann Mathieu is one of the best safeties in the NFL, and with Denver potentially losing Kareem Jackson in free agency, replacing him with a player like Mathieu could make a ton of sense.
Denver needs to maintain their strong secondary, and while there are other safety targets who are younger, Mathieu’s familiarity with the AFC West could be a huge bonus here.
Las Vegas Raiders – Marcus Mariota, QB
Marcus Mariota is probably going to get a starting job this offseason, and the Broncos make sense as a landing spot, seeing as they don’t have a viable solution on the roster.
Mariota could come in and be a 1-2 year bridge while the team develops someone behind him.
This move probably won’t move the needle that much, but there is a possibility.
Los Angeles Chargers – Linval Joseph, DL
At 33, Linval Joseph might be well out of his prime, but he is a large man who excels at stopping the run, something Denver needs help with.
Signing older free agents to short deals makes a lot of sense if Denver can land Aaron Rodgers in a trade, so I don’t think this signing is unlikely.
Even if the team does not get an Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson, signing someone to stop the run should still be a top priority.
