Broncos should keep it to one of two options

Reiterating what was said here, instead of throwing a bunch of ideas at the wall to see which one sticks, Paton should have a clear-cut plan: Either trade for Aaron Rodgers or stick with Drew Lock.

There is still a chance the Broncos could land Rodgers. While many seem to feel that Rodgers is almost certainly returning to the Green Bay Packers, other reports say he is “torn” about where to play in 2022.

Though acquiring Rodgers would be quite expensive, it’s something that Paton would have to consider if it was even in the realm of possibilities. Though Rodgers does not boast a great postseason history, he is the league’s back-to-back MVP.

If Rodgers decides to continue his career in Green Bay, retire, or is traded to somewhere other than Denver, Paton simply needs to go with what he already has in Drew Lock.

Lock has been about as up-and-down as it gets in his career thus far but the team has plenty of salary cap space and 11 picks in the draft to build a tremendous roster around him. Maybe, just maybe he could have a huge season in Nathaniel Hackett’s offense.

What does the team have to lose if he doesn’t?

They won’t trade away precious capital to acquire a guy like Wentz or Garoppolo (who might not even play better than Lock) and if they have another losing season and another high pick in the 2023 draft, that quarterback class is considerably better than this one.

Rodgers or Lock in 2022. Though those two options are on completely different ends of the spectrum, the decision isn’t hard, it really should be that simple.
