Broncos don’t need to go down this route again

So the Broncos decide the free-agent market is too bleak and drafting a quarterback in the first round is not worth it. Oh, what about the idea to trade for someone like Jimmy Garoppolo or Carson Wentz?

Well, what about it? Let’s check out past history.

The Broncos decided to sign Case Keenum as a free agent following the 2017 season in which he shined for the Minnesota Vikings and took them to the NFC Championship Game. Though it was easy to see that Keenum was nothing more than a career backup and the guy who was already there, Trevor Siemian, could have done exactly what he did, the Broncos still shelled out a two-year, $36 million deal to Keenum.

He lasted just that season.

After that season, John Elway came up with the brilliant idea to trade for Joe Flacco. Granted, Flacco helped the Baltimore Ravens win a Super Bowl, but he was terrible in Denver and lasted just one season.

That is going to be the case with Wentz or Garoppolo and if either of those guys were the answer, their respective teams wouldn’t be looking at moving them. Both would be traded for a second time in their careers, by the way, which is quite telling.

Not long ago, I talked about four options on the quarterback carousel for the Broncos to avoid. At this point, pretty much every available name can be added to that list.

The Broncos should not trade for mediocre options. So, that leaves just a couple of options.
