The Denver Broncos are among the teams with the biggest question at quarterback in the NFL.

For some of those teams, that is a new quandary. For the Denver Broncos, that has been the case for some time. That is exactly why during this offseason if there is even a shred of news in which a veteran quarterback may be available, the Broncos are mentioned.

General manager George Paton will carefully sift through each of these potential quarterbacks but when he takes in all of the information, it should be clear that there are really only two options.

For the reasons that are about to be discussed, Paton should be able to easily narrow down his options.

The free-agent market is thin

The first place to look for a new quarterback will be through free agency, but most of the bigger names on the market are players who have become backups, such as Marcus Mariota and Mitch Trubisky.

While some out there may feel that either of those guys would be serviceable options, there is a reason that they became backups. Both players were top-five draft picks who quickly fell out of favor with the teams that took them.

The one name that some will find intriguing is that of former No.1 overall pick, Jameis Winston. Winston has proven he can air it out in the NFL and he was part of a solid team in New Orleans last season before tearing his ACL in Week 8. He also suffered some damage to his MCL.

How well he comes back from that injury will be a question.

All in all, the names on the free-agent market are fairly mediocre, including last year’s starter, Teddy Bridgewater. The Broncos should not go down this road.
