3. The wide receivers are not here to play games

This wide receiver class came into the combine with depth and lots of raw potential. However, what we saw on the first day of the combine was more than just raw potential.

First and foremost, it’s certainly not normal to have nine players run 40-yard dashes under 4.4. We also saw Tyquan Thorton nearly beat John Ross’s dash record, posting a 4.28.

Fans witnessed the beginnings of some big names at the combine, including Ohio State WR Chris Olave and Arkansas WR Treylon Burks.

Both receivers posted solid dash times and were able to move through the drills with precision and quickness.

With guys like Tyquan Thorton and David Bell now jumping into the mix, it’s going to be interesting to see how this wide receiver class orders itself prior to the draft. There’s still a lot more to be seen during pro days, but the first day was just the beginning of these rising stars.

Where these guys come into specific play with Denver is the situational aspects of the offseason. If the Broncos are able to secure a massive target via trade, there’s a sizable chance that deal is going to involve Jerry Jeudy or another receiver. Therefore, the Broncos are going to need a third option at receiver.

Hence why I write on these guys here.

Some of these receivers in the class would pair perfectly alongside Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick. To make things even better, this class is deep enough where Paton could take a chance in the later rounds and grab a receiver for cheap. If they pan out, that’s a rookie contract the Broncos don’t need to sweat over.

Overall, the first day of the combine provided many interesting situations for the Denver Broncos, giving George Paton and the rest of the staff lots of work to cut through in the coming weeks.

Be sure to follow more comprehensive coverage of the NFL Combine from me in the coming days, with offensive and defensive linemen still to come.
