While there are a few obvious things the Denver Broncos must do for 2022, there are also other things the team must avoid doing at all costs.

The Denver Broncos have a very clear path to getting their team where it needs to be for 2022 and beyond.  They have a plethora of cap space and draft picks to retool their roster how they want, which includes making a big move for a quarterback.

They also have enough cap space to make that move and sign significant free agents as well.

One of the risks teams take when they want to spend their cap space is they end up overpaying for someone.  As it pertains to draft picks, teams do often overdraft players as well.

Being that Denver has a lot of both, they not only have a great chance to revive their roster, but also a great chance to completely flop and do more harm than good.

George Paton is the man who gets the final say, and there are a few things he must avoid doing in 2022.

3 things the Denver Broncos must avoid in the 2022 offseason

1. Overdrafting or overpaying for a quarterback

It looks like both Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson are staying put, which is bad news for Denver.

This would mean that Denver would probably consider acquiring a much lesser quarterback like Jimmy Garoppolo or Carson Wentz.

While neither quarterback would be a terrible option, both have not proven to be franchise signal-callers and are both wildly inconsistent.

Moreover, George Paton must also avoid overpaying for a free agent quarterback in free agency.  Mitchell Trubisky and Jameis Winston are intriguing options, but both are going to have a market, and Denver could quickly be outbid.

As for the NFL Draft, Denver has the 9th overall pick, and there is some buzz regarding both Malik Willis and Kenny Pickett going that high or even higher, but with the overall lack of talent among these quarterbacks, drafting one as high as 9th overall is an awful idea.

Just because a team might fall in love with a guy, does not warrant over-drafting them.

I think this would be much different if the quarterback class was more talented, but many of these players are day two guys at best, and Denver would be wise to draft one in round two or later if they wanted.
