Denver Broncos trade candidate no. 3: Jimmy Garoppolo, QB

Denver Broncos fans might riot if this kind of trade were to go down, but I don’t think it’s impossible, not even in the slightest.

Jimmy Garoppolo has helped the San Francisco 49ers to two NFC Championship games in three seasons. He’s not been an MVP, but the 49ers have been visibly better when he’s on the field.

He’s beloved by his teammates and coaches.

He’s only 30.

He’s played in big games.

There are a lot of traits and attributes that make Garoppolo an attractive option at the QB position, and I’m not talking about the fact that he’s a handsome guy.

The primary reason Denver Broncos fans would probably scoff at this idea is beacuse Garoppolo is not Aaron Rodgers. So many fans have tied their hopes and even expectations to the Rodgers scenario that nothing else will satisfy.

I don’t think trading for Garoppolo would be a long-term solution, but he could buy you some time. He’s proven he can win in a tough division. He’s proven he can distribute the ball to the playmakers around him.

He’s better than what the Broncos have had, and while I can resonate with every fan that is sick of the bridge quarterback options, what needs to be taken into consideration is the fact that QBs don’t grow on trees and it’s much harder to find one than throwing all your draft picks at a veteran or drafting a guy just to draft a guy.

At some point, George Paton is going to have to make a long-term play at the QB position, but that may not be in the cards in the 2022 offseason.

As it is, I think Garoppolo would welcome the chance to come to Denver and play in an offense he would have almost no trouble getting acclimated to with a whole host of playmakers to get the ball to.

I think Garoppolo would do well in Denver even if he’s not Aaron Rodgers, and while the price to acquire him would probably be higher than most fans would like, I do think this is a realistic option, maybe the most realistic option if the Broncos trade for anyone at QB in 2022.
