Denver Broncos offensive FA target: Melvin Gordon, RB

For a bit, I actually had Leonard Fournette penciled into this slot.

I do think the Broncos are going to add a running back in free agency, but the list of possibilities there might be rather short.

Gordon has been focal about his desire to remain with the Broncos despite the feeling he gets that the fans don’t want him. He’s excited about being in Denver, he likes playing in Denver, and general manager George Paton likes him back.

I still think the idea of Leonard Fournette has some merit. The Jacksonville Jaguars heavily prioritized him in the 2017 NFL Draft when Nathaniel Hackett was the offensive coordinator and Tyrone Wheatley was the running backs coach.

Given their history together, that kind of pairing could make a lot of sense, and I would say at the very least to keep an eye out for it.

Melvin Gordon is going to be 29 in April, so you probably aren’t going to see much more than a two-year deal given, and the value would certainly not be on par with what he signed going into his age 27 season a couple of offseasons ago.

With that said, Gordon has been exactly as advertised for the Denver Broncos, averaging over 1,100 yards from scrimmage in his two seasons with Denver as well as 10 touchdowns in each season.

Although Gordon is aware that the Broncos want Javonte Williams to be the lead back, he still views his role with the team as one he wants to continue playing and I think we will see the Broncos prioritize that.
