Denver Broncos trade ideas with the Washington Commanders
Taylor Heinicke, QB
Could the Denver Broncos trade for their new backup quarterback? Taylor Heinicke was forced into the starting lineup in 2021 after original starter Ryan Fitzpatrick went down with an injury.
Heinicke went 7-8 in 2021, passing for 20 touchdowns against 15 interceptions, and also ran for 313 yards.
If nothing else, Taylor Heinicke proved himself to be a capable backup in the NFL. He’s played for the Panthers and Texans, and if Washington makes a significant move for a quarterback, Heinicke could be available.
If they can’t land someone like Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson, the Commanders could look to use their first-round pick on a rookie, and pairing them with Ryan Fitzpatrick could be a better combination than with Heinicke.
Fitzpatrick is viewed around the league as the ultimate teammate and mentor, so he’d surely be perfect for a rookie quarterback. I bet if someone asked Tua Tagovailoa how valuable Ryan Fitzpatrick was to him, he’d answer favorably.
In this scenario, Taylor Heinicke might fall out of favor with Washington, and perhaps the Denver Broncos could make use of a mobile quarterback with 16 career starts under his belt.
