Let Melvin Gordon walk

It’s hard to say whether the Broncos are still mulling this over or not, but they shouldn’t be.

While Melvin Gordon has been productive in Denver, there’s not a huge reason to keep him around with the emergence of Javonte Williams. The Broncos can then go and sign a much cheaper option in free agency, such as one of these guys.

A team such as the Miami Dolphins, who have more cap space than anyone and have a need at running back, could come after Gordon and be willing to throw a boatload of money at him. Let them.

The Broncos can get a 1,000-yard season out of Williams and keep him fresh by rotating Mike Boone and another running back out of the draft or one signed in free agency to spell him.

The Broncos did a good job of splitting the reps evenly between the two backs last season, but it was clear that Williams should have seen the field more often.

Gordon will be looking for a big contract and there are teams around the league that can offer it to him. The Broncos can save that money and spend it elsewhere by giving Williams more snaps and replacing Gordon with cheaper options.
