Broncos’ biggest free-agent losses: Malik Jackson

When a team has success, it’s common for other franchises around the league to pry some of that team’s players away when given the chance.

After winning Super Bowl 50, not only did the Broncos lose Trevathan, but Malik Jackson was signed away too. He received a massive six-year deal from the Jacksonville Jaguars worth $85 million. Of that, $31.5 million was guaranteed.

Jackson worked his way up the ranks in Denver after being a fifth-round pick in 2012 and he became an integral piece of a championship defense. He was the player that scored the first touchdown of Super Bowl 50, recovering the fumble of Cam Newton that was caused by Von Miller. After the ball trickled into the end zone, Jackson fell on it.

Jackson did have 14.5 sacks in his first two seasons with Jacksonville, playing on another great defense in 2017 that helped the Jags reach the AFC Championship Game. But things have been on a downward slope since then.

He has played for two other teams since leaving Jacksonville following the 2018 season and has a total of 6.5 sacks since then. His best days certainly seem to be behind him.

But his best days did take place in Denver where the team had a hard time adjusting to him not being a part of the defensive front for the team.
