David Bakhtiari, Offensive Tackle

We stay with the offensive line but go over to the other side, the left side, where David Bahktiari has spent his entire career protecting the blind side of Rodgers. Bakhtiari would also be quite a bit more expensive to obtain than Turner, though injuries could bring down his perceived value a bit.

He played in just one game last season and missed four games the year before. Still, he is one of the best left tackles in football and Rodgers would give him a ringing endorsement as such.

Bakhtiari also played at Colorado University in Boulder, so he has that local connection as well and might be thrilled to come back and play his home games in the state he went to college.

But why would the Broncos trade for Bakhtiari when they have Garret Bolles?

Though this move is not likely, it would come down to offensive scheme and fit. Maybe the Broncos see Bakhtiari, who is still just 30 years old, as a better fit in Hackett’s offense? If the trade happened, maybe Bolles could be moved over to the right side or maybe Bakhtiari himself could even play right tackle?

There would be many possibilities, but coaches often want the players they see as the best options for their team. Bolles has had an up-and-down career so there is no guarantee that Hackett is going to see him as a must-have guy. At the same time, he could view him as an even better option than Bakhtiari.

If you look at figures compiled by Over the Cap, the Packers are severely in the hole in terms of available cap space. They need to dump big contracts and Bakhtiari has one of the biggest on the roster.
