How the Denver Broncos can contend with the Bengals going forward

Denver Broncos: Find cornerbacks to slow Ja’Marr Chase
The Cincinnati Bengals have weapons everywhere. Led by their trio of receivers, the offensive weapons surrounding Joe Burrow give the team a chance to light up opposing defenses on any given week.
Having a strong pass rush is important to disrupting the timing of the Bengals’ offense, but having coverage players to help take away options is also a key to slowing down the Bengals. The Denver Broncos will need to invest in cornerback in order to hang with the Cincinnati offense.
While the Bengals have a star in Ja’Marr Chase, the Broncos have faith that cornerback Patrick Surtain II can be a shut-down corner in the NFL. This season, Surtain kept Chase in check when the two matched up in week 15.
The rest of the Broncos’ secondary could use some work. Bryce Callahan and Kyle Fuller are both free agents and could choose to join their former defensive coordinator Ed Donatell in Minnesota. Third-year cornerback Michael Ojemudia is currently in line to start opposite of Surtain.
The Broncos will surely want to invest in the cornerback position this offseason. The top of the 2022 NFL Draft has excellent talent, including Derek Stingley and Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, and could be potential options for Denver if they fall to the 9th overall pick.
Finding affordable veteran talent should also be on the Broncos’ radar in free agency. While Ojemudia flashed in limited playing time during the 2021 NFL Season, finding additional options would be wise to help defend against the best teams in the AFC.
While Patrick Surtain II looks like a find for George Paton and the Broncos, the rest of the secondary needs some work. Investing in the back-end this offseason should help the Broncos contain the explosive trio of receivers for the Bengals.
