Denver Broncos latest news on potential veteran quarterbacks
There have been a few updates on potential veteran quarterback additions for the Denver Broncos. This article will give an update on the latest news.
There have been some updates regarding potential veteran quarterbacks available this offseason for the Denver Broncos.
This offseason is set to be filled with a ton of quarterback-related movement, and the Denver Broncos are set to be in on nearly every deal.
George Paton’s 2021 solution of Teddy Bridgewater and Drew Lock clearly did not work. With new head coach Nathaniel Hackett now in the fold, that bodes well for Lock’s chance to stick around on the team, whether becoming the full-time starter or remaining on the team as the backup.
The obvious connection with Nathaniel Hackett is Aaron Rodgers, but the now four-time MVP isn’t the only option for the Denver Broncos. There are a plethora of options at the quarterback position this offseason, whether as short-term solutions or long-term solutions.
So, let’s take a look at some of the most recent news regarding some quarterbacks.
What’s the latest regarding the Denver Broncos and veteran QBs?
Aaron Rodgers
There has been little news from Rodgers’ camp, but we do have a bit of updates from the Packers side, and something from Denver’s side.
Apparently, head coach Nathaniel Hackett is “pushing hard” for the team to trade for Rodgers. I suppose this isn’t news, but it’s been confirmed as a legitimate report, so it’s worth something.
Obviously, it’s not surprise Hackett is vouching for Aaron Rodgers to come over in a trade to Denver.
Also, from the Packers side, the team plans to go “all-in” on trying to retain Rodgers and keep their team as together as possible, given their awful cap situation. According to the linked article, the Packers are willing to copy the New Orleans Saints’ method, where they essentially pushed some of their contracts into future years to create as much cap space as possible for the present.
One requirement of doing this is to offer Rodgers a massive contract extension, which would surely make him one of, if not the highest paid player in the NFL.
One last tidbit is that Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are in a good place, and have had productive conversations as well.
This could be good news for both the Packers’ chances at retaining him and the Denver Broncos’ chances at landing him in a trade. If they are indeed in a good place, they would surely be willing to deal Rodgers to whatever team he’d want, right?
It’s also worth noting that everything we have heard from the Packers’ side is effectively “Aaron, please come back.” Nothing that has been revealed from the Packers’ side has indicated that they are not trading Rodgers, while they clearly voiced that last year, saying time and time again they would not trade him.
The Packers now understand that Rodgers holds most of the leverage, and are emptying their playbook to try and keep him.
