5 players trending in the wrong direction for Denver Broncos
K.J. Hamler, Wide receiver
The Broncos took a shot on K.J. Hamler in the second round of the 2020 draft and the upside is clearly there. Take a look at this highlight from the preseason (video). The problem has been staying on the field.
Hamstring issues gave Hamler fits during his rookie campaign, though he still caught 30 passes. In year two, he went down in Week 3 with a torn ACL that ended his season.
The Broncos have a receiving corps that includes Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick. The Broncos also have young guys in Tyrie Cleveland and Seth Williams as well as a capable veteran in Travis Fulgham.
The Broncos are not going to give up on Hamler already, but they will need to see a big year three from him or there is a chance he’ll be sent packing in 2023.
We have seen a chemistry between Hamler and Drew Lock, particularly on the deep ball and it would be a wonderful thing to see that come out more in games that count.
Hamler has had an extensive time to rehab his tough injury but he’ll have to show that was just a minor setback. As a second-round pick, expectations are always going to be high and to this point, regardless of the reason, he has yet to come close to reaching them.
