Diontae Spencer, Wide receiver/Return specialist

I’ve long been pushing the Broncos to move on from Diontae Spencer who, in my opinion, adds almost nothing to this team.

It’s hard to see the importance of keeping a return specialist around unless he is putting up Devin Hester kind of numbers, and Spencer isn’t coming anywhere near to that.

By trade, Spencer is technically a wide receiver. But for his tenure in Denver, he has a grand total of 10 catches for 54 yards.

But the Broncos always hold back a roster spot in order to have Spencer around to handle kickoff and punt returns. As a kick returner, Spencer has averaged 21.4 yards per return. On punt returns, his average is 9.8 yards. He has one punt return for a touchdown.

The Broncos have a lot of talent at the wide receiver position and should consider keeping most of them ahead of Spencer. It would be one thing if Spencer offered more as a wide receiver, but since he has put up the kind of numbers he has, the team won’t be losing much to cut him loose.
