The success of teams in the NFL can often come down to their depth. The Denver Broncos should target these players as depth pieces in free agency for 2022.

A big reason why teams in the NFL are able to last all season and perform in the playoffs is because of their depth.  The Denver Broncos, believe it or not, have good depth.

Teams that are top-heavy often struggle at times because they don’t have enough talent deep into their roster.  The 2021 Denver Broncos had solid depth this season on both sides of the ball.  However, because of bad quarterback play, the team’s depth was not able to be shown off in the postseason.

As George Paton sets to enter his second offseason as the general manager of the Denver Broncos, he will surely be in on notable free agents who will come in and start day 1.  As free agency rolls on, the team should also have more inexpensive players to help fill the backend of the roster out.

Generally, these types of signings are low risk and high reward, because they come cheap, and if they perform well, you’ve effectively made an excellent financial decision.

So, let’s take a look at a few bargain free agents for the Denver Broncos to target in 2022.

Austin Blythe, C

Blythe, a former 7th round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, was a former 16 game starter for the Rams.  From 2017-2020, Blythe started in all but 1 game for the Rams, appearing in a Super Bowl.

Blythe signed a 1 year deal with the Chiefs for 2021, appearing in just one game.  His best year was in 2018, where he played in over 1,000 snaps, didn’t allow a sack, committed just two penalties, and earned a 76.4 PFF grade.

Austin Blythe has solid proof of being a solid, starting-caliber center in the NFL, and he can be had for little cost, probably another deal around $1 million.

I do think Blythe would be able to push Lloyd Cushenberry in camp, and Blythe has guard experience as well.

This would be a very smart signing.  Blythe has good agility and would excel in zone schemes, which is what the Denver Broncos are set to employ in 2022.
