Bryce Callahan’s on-field performance

Bryce Callahan’s time with Denver Broncos was met with at least some criticism. From injury history to “he is not real.” The “he is not real” criticism came because of the injuries he dealt with over the last three years.

However, as a member of the cornerback room, he was one of the better players at the position and team. In 2020, Callahan played at an All-Pro level and was one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. One of the most impressive aspects of Callahan’s 2020 performance is the play on that outside boundary.

A majority of his snaps were the outside corner. Callahan’s size is misleading. Despite being listed under six feet, he plays with elite toughness and fear of nothing. Before missing the rest of the season, Callahan almost eclipsed 700 snaps.

According to Pro Football Focus, he calculated an 86.7 grade which is close to elite territory. The grade is 86.7/100 an overall impressive performance for a great season. His 53.8% Receptions per target is really good in terms of the responsibility he was tasked with during 2020.

Pro Football Reference had Callahan’s completion percentage allowed on targets around 54.4% in 2020 and 56.8% in 2021.

It is understandable why the fans would want to move on from Bryce Callahan. Your best ability is availability. However, the performance on the football field is undeniable. When Callahan stepped foot on the field you knew his area was covered.

A healthy Denver Broncos secondary was always the best product. It’s important to keep that product on the team as much as possible.
