Denver Broncos cut candidates – Drew Lock

Could Drew Lock’s time be nearing an end in Denver?  Lock, who lost the starting job to Teddy Bridgewater before the 2021 season, appeared in 6 games for the Broncos in 2021, starting 3.

He actually put up some decent play during his 3 starts, and ended the season on a stronger personal note.

However, with the continuing uncertainty of the Denver Broncos quarterback situation, Lock could be yet another player who didn’t work out for the team.

His contract would have little impact on the team’s cap situation.   Cutting him would yield little dead money and little savings, but if the Denver Broncos acquire a legitimate quarterback this offseason, his release could make sense.

George Paton could elect to start fresh with the quarterback room.  Teddy Bridgewater probably won’t be retained, and Lock could be just another guy who tried and failed to solve the quarterback issue.

If the Denver Broncos are able to land an Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson in a trade, taking a swing on a quarterback in the middle rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft could make sense, or even signing a mid-level veteran like Mitchell Trubisky, Marcus Mariota, or Jameis Winston.
