Denver Broncos Non-QB Blockbuster trades

Broncos receive: Za’Darius Smith, Packers receive: 2022 3rd round pick

The Packers have the worst cap situation in the NFL coming into this offseason.

They’ll need to make a plethora of roster moves to get back under the cap, one of which is parting ways with EDGE Za’Darius Smith, who was a Pro Bowler in each of his first two seasons in Green Bay, amounting 26.0 sacks during the regular season.

Smith, who missed nearly the entire 2021 season with a back injury, will turn 30 soon after the 2022 season begins.

He is by no means a long-term option, but putting Smith opposite Bradley Chubb could form a very sturdy pass rush duo for Denver.

The Denver Broncos traded Von Miller during the 2021 season, and they’ll need someone to attempt to fill his shoes.  Smith could be that guy for a year or two.  If Denver does indeed trade for a quality veteran quarterback, acquiring talent like Smith makes a lot of sense.

He won’t be too expensive to trade for but will have a cap hit of over $27 million in 2022, so the Broncos would need to do some restructuring there.

Either way, Smith is a talented pass rusher who gives the Broncos a Pro Bowl talent and allows them to improve their below-average pass rush.
