The Denver Broncos are undoubtedly underway with free agency preparation and one position they could target is at slot cornerback.

The Denver Broncos heavily emphasized the cornerback position in the 2021 offseason, signing both Ronald Darby and Kyle Fuller in free agency before using their first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft on Pat Surtain II.

The emphasis placed on the cornerback position proved to be a very wise move by general manager George Paton as the Broncos had to deal with injuries to each of their top four cornerbacks throughout the season.

With Bryce Callahan and Kyle Fuller slated for free agency in 2022, could the Broncos look at the free agent market for some new blood at the slot corner position?

Denver Broncos could prioritize slot cornerbacks in free agency

With Callahan on the way out and Nate Hairston also hitting free agency, the Broncos’ in-house options to play the slot at this point are a bit thin.

Essang Bassey was reacquired at the end of the season, although many probably missed that roster move given the transition the team was going through at the head coach position.

Michael Ojemudia ended the season on a strong note health-wise, but is he an NFL nickel? Do you play Ojemudia and Pat Surtain on the outside and move Ronald Darby into the slot?

Given the fact that those two bigger contracts (Callahan, Fuller) are coming off the books and also that slot corners are going for pretty reasonable rates in free agency, I think the Broncos will go after someone who has proven production in the slot.
