Denver Broncos risky FA QB option #3: Jameis Winston, Saints
Although today’s NFL appears to be favoring much more athletic options at the QB position, Jameis Winston could thrive in the offense we’ve been seeing the Green Bay Packers run over the past few seasons.
If a player like Matt Ryan can play MVP-caliber football in the Kyle Shanahan offense, then Jameis Winston can probably do it.
Although he’s coming off of a knee injury, Winston might be one of the more underrated available quarterback options in 2022.
It’s possible that everyone is right in assuming Winston will somehow just find his way back to the Saints, but you can’t help but wonder how much of a role Sean Payton played in Winston being in New Orleans in the first place.
With Sean Payton gone, I think there’s at least somewhat of a chance that we’ll see Winston explore his options.
If that’s the case, he might jump near the top of the list, to be honest.
Winston is only 28 years old, and he had 14 touchdown passes in just six games and change last season. He threw 14 touchdowns on 161 pass attempts last season while Teddy Bridgewater had 18 touchdown throws on 426 pass attempts.
If Winston had kept up that pace and threw 426 passes, he would have been on pace for 37 touchdowns.
The primary risks with a guy like Winston? First and foremost, he’s coming off of a major injury. Second, he’s been prone to turnovers in his career, including a 30-interception season back in 2019.
That was probably more of an outlier than anything, but even the two guys in the Super Bowl threw almost one interception per game in 2021.
Gunslingers gonna gunslinger.

4 QBs the Denver Broncos could target in the Senior Bowl
The Denver Broncos have a presence at the 2022 Senior Bowl and could be on the lookout for some of the draft's top quarterback prospects.
If the Broncos fail to acquire one of the big stars at the QB position, the idea of Jameis Winston is very intriguing.
