Denver Broncos risky FA QB option #1: Mitch Trubisky, Bills

The Denver Broncos weren’t in on Mitch Trubisky in the 2021 NFL free agency cycle, but it makes sense now why.

Of course, Trubisky was not exactly coming off of a stellar year in Chicago, but as I pointed out on numerous occasions last offseason, the idea of him being in Denver with a strong supporting cast could have made a lot of sense, especially with ties to Vic Fangio.

This offseason, the ties to Fangio are not there, but the superior coaching staff might be.

At least offensively, it can’t get worse than what the Denver Broncos have had with Pat Shurmur the last couple of seasons, and with Nathaniel Hackett coming in and bringing his energy to the table, this could honestly be an even better fit for Trubisky going forward.

Has Trubisky been perfect so far in his NFL career?

Absolutely not.

Has he shown some potential and traits worth developing?

Absolutely.

In the 2018 season, Trubisky threw 24 touchdown passes and also ran for over 400 yards with three touchdowns.

There are athletic and physical traits worth potentially taking a risk on as a reclamation project here.

Trubisky would be more of an option if the Broncos decide they are going for the 2022 NFL Draft route, but you never know if he might show you something on a short-term deal.
