The Denver Broncos are going to be all-in on the quarterback market in the 2022 offseason. Are there any free agents out there worth the risk?
The 2022 offseason is going to be all about the quarterback position for the Denver Broncos.
Okay, we might hear some things about the team’s ownership situation as well, but aside from that — quarterback.
Until it’s proven that Broncos general manager George Paton absolutely cannot get his hands on a player like Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers or Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks, everyone in Broncos Country will (rightfully) have their hearts set on the best of the best.
But what if those guys don’t become available? Every stone must be turned, including those in free agency. This year’s free agent crop obviously does not include a Tom Brady or even a Kirk Cousins type of quarterback, but there are some players that might be worth having even if there’s a bit of risk attached.
Would the Denver Broncos take a risk on free agent QBs?
How will George Paton approach the position if he’s unable to get a star like Rodgers or Wilson?
Would he pivot to someone like Jimmy Garoppolo of the 49ers? There’s no way the Raiders are trading Derek Carr to the Broncos, so even if he becomes available, that’s not really an option.
Are the Vikings going to trade Kirk Cousins? It feels like that became way less likely with their impending hire of Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell as head coach.
Matt Ryan’s not getting traded from the Falcons — they are tied to that contract.
Besides the big names, it feels like it could realistically be Jimmy Garoppolo, the 2022 NFL Draft, or free agency.
We’ll see what George Paton and Nathaniel Hackett have up their sleeves, but what about some risk/reward options in 2022 NFL free agency?
