Denver Broncos 2022 Draft option #3: Matt Corral, Ole Miss

The next three quarterbacks have a little bit in common in terms of arm strength. However, the intrigue with Matt Corral is the ability to manipulate a pocket with his eyes and appropriately use his legs when he needs to escape damage.

Corral is one of the better prospects at quarterback at protecting his body from harm. I’m not sure if he has a baseball background, but if you see him slide he smartly understands how to avoid pressure from defenders.

Corral did a tremendous job shutting up people regarding accuracy in 2021. He struggled mightily with the ability to lead receivers and place them in a location where only the target can get it. Interceptions alone aren’t a definer of accuracy; however, only four interceptions in 2021 is a ridiculously low number for a season. This clarifies the efficiency of Corral. Corral did a great job understanding when was the right time to pull the trigger.

It’s there he showed decision-making, progressions, accuracy, and pocket manipulation.

Once all of that comes together it shows the poise of Corral with every situation. With every single opportunity in 2021, he excelled at a high level. Between him and Strong, they might be the best at pocket manipulation. One deterrent for Corral is the arm; however, it’s sufficient arm strength. It is not exactly the Carson Strong’s or Malik Willis’, but it is enough to succeed at any level because he keeps the defense honest with his legs. To bring back the above point, mobility is the greatest weapon for Corral.

Unfortunately, one has to wonder if the mobility will be limited because of his sprained ankle in the bowl game. Corral’s toughness cannot be overstated. His intangibles are amazing when facing adversity. Corral showed a great presence when the chips are down during games. Every time leaders are down and out it is how they respond. The Ole Miss quarterback did an impressive job rallying his team from behind.

The strongest point of emphasis for possibly Matt Corral with the Denver Broncos is one where it relies on getting the playmakers the football. Ole Miss was great at the with screens and intermediate passes. The Broncos don’t need intermediate passes per se; however, it is an offense with a lot of playmakers.

If Corral came to Denver, then he would be set up for success. To be fair…. every single quarterback in these rankings would be too. It is just a matter of fit. Corral looks to be a solid fit.
