Once upon a time, the Green Bay Packers seemed to have had interest in Denver Broncos quarterback Drew Lock. Does that interest still exist?

Coming into the 2019 NFL Draft, now Denver Broncos quarterback Drew Lock was viewed as one of the top quarterbacks on the board.

Kyler Murray was the consensus No.1 quarterback, but Drew Lock often was number 2 or 3 in various rankings.

Lock possess many tools needed to be a franchise quarterback. He fits the modern-day mold of a franchise signal caller. He has an excellent arm, as he can make every throw on the field. He has underrated mobility, above average speed, and an excellent attitude. He also played in the SEC, which is another plus.

The Denver Broncos failed Drew Lock. He showed promise in 2019, going 4-1 in his 5 starts and putting a lot of great football on tape.

2020 was the beginning of the end of Lock’s chances at development in Denver. Pat Shurmur’s pathetic offense did nothing but hurt the Denver Broncos, and Drew Lock soon became widely viewed as one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL.

However, among other teams, one of them had strong interest in Drew Lock, going as far as inviting him to their facilities before the 2019 draft.

That team was the Green Bay Packers.

The Packers, in 2019, welcomed the Matt LaFleur era, which featured new offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.

Fast forward 3 years, and Drew Lock finds himself in an interesting spot. Anyone who has been following the Aaron Rodgers saga over the past year knows that he’s been linked to Denver.

Denver is going all-in on trying to acquire Rodgers, and it seems as if he could be on his way out of Green Bay.

With the Packers set to be well over the salary cap, and essentially needing a mini-rebuild, Rodgers could very well request a trade.

One question that remains is if Green Bay still has any interest in the services of Drew Lock?

If they hosted him on a visit before the 2019 NFL Draft, could that interest still exist, and could Drew Lock be packaged in a deal for Aaron Rodgers?

I think the potential there is interesting. Even if, for example, the Denver Broncos do trade for Aaron Rodgers, and Drew Lock stays with the team, Lock being able to watch and learn from Aaron Rodgers could do wonders for his game.

Conversely, if the Green Bay Packers still have interest in Lock, he becomes that much more valuable if Denver has the opportunity to trade for Aaron Rodgers.

Drew Lock and Aaron Rodgers share a few qualities, and perhaps Packers’ head coach Matt LaFleur and General Manager Brian Gutekunst can look at Drew Lock’s 2021 tape towards the end of the season, and find some positives in it.

Next. Broncos should avoid these 4 QBs on the carousel. dark

Lock is still on his rookie deal, so could Drew Lock be heading to Wisconsin?
