Free agents for the Denver Broncos to stay away from in 2022

1. Melvin Gordon, RB

Under no circumstances should the Denver Broncos re-sign Melvin Gordon.

Gordon, who turns 29 in April, has enjoyed two solid years with the Denver Broncos.  He’s been the team’s most reliable player on offense, but he has crucial fumbling issues and was clearly the inferior back to rookie sensation Javonte Williams this season.

Javonte Williams was a stud in his rookie campaign and is poised to breakout in year two.

I do think Williams can be a perennial Pro Bowler, and he should be the bulk of the carries, each and every week.  Being utilized like the Colts’ Jonathan Taylor is the ideal workload for Williams.

Re-signing Melvin Gordon does not allow for the Broncos to do that.  I understand wanting to re-sign a solid player, but there is bound to be much better RB value in the mid-rounds of the draft and in free agency.

Ronald Jones is a good example of a free agent running back who makes much more sense than Gordon.

Jones is just 24 and would be cheaper to sign, plus, he’d fit right into a backup role with the team.

Melvin Gordon can go sign elsewhere to a contender who can promise more playing time.

The Denver Broncos need to form their running game around Williams.  We also cannot forget about Mike Boone, who has exceptional speed and is also a nice compliment to Williams.

No to Melvin Gordon in Denver in 2022.
