With the shocking departure of Sean Payton, the New Orleans Saints are now in a coaching search.  This may allow other coaches currently on the staff to seek other opportunities, as the team is most definitely headed toward a rebuild.

Darren Rizzi has served as the Saints’ STC since 2019.  From 2010-2018, he served as the Dolphins STC as well.

His bio on the Saints’ website is very impressive, as well.

Stats of note are his units ranking 1st in the NFL over the past 10 seasons with 12 blocked punts, and 2nd in that same span with 24 blocked kicks.

The Saints are also a team with a generally strong punting and kicking game as well, highlighted by Pro Bowl returner Deonte Harris.

He’s got 28 total years of coaching experience and enjoyed solid success as the Dolphins STC, highlighted by the Dolphins ranking 8th in punt return average, 5th most punts inside the 20 yard line, and the 8th highest field goal percentage, all in 2018.

Rizzi appears to be a very good special teams coach, and the Denver Broncos should see if he’s able to make a lateral move to Denver.
