Denver Broncos winners and losers from Hackett hire
Winners and losers of Nathaniel Hackett hire
Winner: Jerry Jeudy
Oh boy, Jerry Jeudy’s role in the offense just got exponentially better.
Jerry Jeudy has been disgustingly misused in his first two seasons in Denver. Pat Shurmur clearly had no idea how to involve one of the league’s best and most shifty offensive players.
Predominantly Orange’s own Robert Davis is a X’s and O’s guru, and he was able to layout how Jerry Jeudy benefits a ton from this hire.
On his Twitter account (@DavisBreakdowns) Robby notes that the offense that Hackett may bring in forces the receivers into a lot of man-beating concepts and quick-hitting screens.
Both of these concepts benefit Jeudy enormously.
Jeudy is a 1-on-1 nightmare for most DBs and can do extensive damage in space.
Quick screens mean the quarterback gets the ball out within a step or two of his dropback to a receiver a few yards behind the line of scrimmage. The receiver generally has a few other offensive players in front of him blocking.
This image paints a solid picture of how we could expect Jerry Jeudy to be used.
The Y in this image would be Jerry Jeudy. He runs the screen, while the other receivers and offensive line block.
We have been screaming for Jerry Jeudy to get the ball more in general, but this offense might be perfect for him.
