Denver Broncos offseason need no. 2: Pass Rush

One of the areas we are all aware is near the top of the Denver Broncos’ 2022 needs list, and apparently George Paton is too, is the pass rush department.

The Broncos traded Von Miller to the Los Angeles Rams for second-and-third-round draft choices in 2022, a trade that could go down as one of Paton’s best even if it wasn’t the most popular move at the time.

The Rams are trying to buy their way to a Super Bowl, which isn’t a terrible strategy given how well-coached and talented they are, so the draft capital is bordering on negligible to them.

For the Broncos, those selections have become premium 2022 capital that could help alter the state of the franchise.

Now, instead of having just three picks in the top 100, the Broncos have five. This kind of capital gives you ultimate flexibility and for a roster that is already as talented as Denver’s, it is a massive bonus.

What does all of that have to do with the pass rush?

Well, the Broncos can tap into the very deep 2022 NFL Draft class off the edge, starting with potentially their 9th overall pick.

It won’t be shocking, when all is said and done, to see all of Kayvon Thibodeaux, Aidan Hutchinson, and David Ojabo go in the top 10 picks. The Broncos have been a popular landing spot for Ojabo lately.

This year’s pass rush free agent crop is also strong, led obviously by Von Miller and Chandler Jones. We’ll see if those guys actually get to the open market, but there will be a variety of options for George Paton to consider.

Bradley Chubb’s fifth-year option is already on the table for Denver, and the team has breakout rookie Jonathon Cooper to rotate in. It’s clear, though, that Paton must add talent in the pass rush department this offseason.
