2022 Trade Targets for Denver

2. Xavien Howard, CB, Miami Dolphins

There seems to be speculation all the time that Xavien Howard was unhappy in Miami.  Howard, who was drafted by the Dolphins in 2016, came off a stellar 2020 season, intercepting 10 passes.

Howard is a high-quality cornerback in the NFL, and the Broncos have both Bryce Callahan and Kyle Fuller as free agents this offseason.

Pairing Howard with Patrick Surtain II and Ronald Darby would give the Broncos, yet again, the best cornerback group in the NFL.

With Brian Flores now out in Miami, the Dolphins might want to do a bit of rebuilding.  Trading veterans on large contracts might be in their best interest to acquire as much draft capital as possible to try and make a quick turnaround.

Howard’s cap hit in 2022 is just north of $16 million, so he won’t be cheap financially.  It would probably cost the Broncos at least a second-round pick to pull the trade off.

If the Broncos trade their own second-round pick in 2022, they’ll still have the Los Angeles Rams 2022 second-round pick, so not all is lost there.
