Although injuries are never preferred, the injuries to starting linebackers Josey Jewell and Alexander Johnson may have paved the way for the future at the position.

Before the 2021 season started, George Paton swung a trade for 49ers linebacker Jonas Griffith, a trade that initially reeked of the Dekoda Watson trade the team made just a couple of years ago.

It felt like Paton overpaid to compensate for Tom McMahon’s incompetent special teams unit, but it’s now abundantly clear that Paton was throwing a dart at a guy who clearly showed well in 2021 preseason play, is an athletic unicorn, and has potential.

He’s shown that potential and then some in recent weeks.

So has 2021 third-round pick Baron Browning, a player many in Broncos Country would have been happy getting in the second round of the draft, but someone they actually got with the final pick on day two.

Both Browning and Griffith are physical freaks with athleticism that is off the charts for their position. Together, they are a lot of fun to watch and will be a blast to watch against the Chiefs.
