5 players that could follow Vic Fangio if he’s fired by the Denver Broncos

1. Josey Jewell, linebacker

One player that has truly found success with Vic Fangio at the helm is 2018 fourth-round pick Josey Jewell, whose 2021 season ended prematurely with a pectoral injury.

Jewell had developed into one of the Broncos’ more consistent and underrated defenders from the 2019-2020 seasons and appeared poised for even further positive development in 2021 before the injury.

He’s been a tremendous fit for Fangio’s defense and if Fangio leaves the Broncos, it seems like Jewell might be an ideal candidate to leave along with him.

Why?

Well, although I think Jewell is also a strong candidate to re-sign with the Broncos, the team has seen substantial development from young players Jonas Griffith and Baron Browning. Those two players, unlike Jewell, are physical and athletic unicorns at the position.

How George Paton prioritizes the linebacker position in the offseason will be fascinating, but I could see Jewell trying to rehab his value on a short-term deal wherever Fangio lands as a defensive coordinator if he’s let go by the Broncos in 2022.

The linebacker position is notoriously tough for players to master at the linebacker position, and Jewell was arguably Fangio’s most trusted guy going into the 2021 season.
