4 positives in a lost season for the Denver Broncos

2. The core of the roster is outstanding

While the Denver Broncos’ coaching staff was not good enough at all in 2021, the team clearly has a roster core that is among the best in the NFL.

As good as I thought the roster looked even just projecting to the 2021 season as we were watching this team in training camp and preseason play, the actual on-field product and depth of the roster have been even better than even the most optimistic could have predicted.

On both sides of the football, the Denver Broncos clearly have players that are worthy of investing in for the future, including obviously guys who have emerged as stars even as rookies in cornerback Pat Surtain II and running back Javonte Williams.

George Paton has made substantial investments in guys like Justin Simmons, Ronald Darby, Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick, and Shelby Harris, and those players will be core guys moving forward as well.

The Broncos showed over the majority of the 2021 season that their offensive line play is at least average and they have pieces there worth keeping moving forward. The skill positions are outstanding offensively.

Obviously, this Broncos roster is not without weaknesses or areas it can improve. But the pieces are clearly in place for this team to make a serious run in the near future if they can figure out the quarterback position.

As many have stated throughout the season, the Broncos truly do appear to be just a quarterback away.

2022 will be the time for George Paton to work his magic.
