The Denver Broncos suffered another gut-wrenching loss on Sunday while only scoring 13 points against the Raiders, which brings up an interesting statistic by Broncos insider, Benjamin Allbright.

With Teddy Bridgewater out for this particular game, many Broncos fans were excited to see Drew Lock back again as QB1 for the Broncos. There was a lot of speculation on who deserved to be the starting quarterback this year after a controversial decision made by Vic Fangio to give Bridgewater the nod to start Week One.

With a full week of practice and preparation for Lock, he played a very solid game for the offense against the Raiders this past Sunday. A couple of key drops hurt Lock and the offense moving down the field but his decision-making and poise looked way better than how it was last year.

The stats for this game doesn’t tell the whole story for Lock, but considering the drops and getting eight rushing yards combined from both running backs, clearly showed that the decision to start Bridgewater was not the right one.

This may be an opinion that many share with each other but one alarming stat proves that it might be the case for real.

Benjamin Allbright, who is a Broncos insider along with being a reporter, host, and analyst at the Broncos flagship, tweeted a statistic that compared both scoring offenses between last year’s team and this year’s team.

With Bridgewater being the more “safe” option according to Fangio and Pat Shurmur, the offense is on pace to score fewer points in 16 games than last season.

While the coaching staff thought that maybe Bridgewater doesn’t turn the ball over as much as Lock, meaning they will have the ball a lot more than last year, that they’ll be able to score more with their opportunities, along with playing at a slow pace.

Bridgewater did have a good points per possession statistic that was being brought up during the debate of who should be QB1, but that wasn’t necessarily the case when you watch those games live this year.

Not only will this offense under Bridgewater score fewer points last year when Lock was at the helm, but it should also be noted that Lock was not the only quarterback that played last year too.

From Jeff Driskel to Brett Rypien to the emergency starting quarterback, Kendall Hinton. Yes, four different starting quarterbacks, including Lock, would have scored more points than the quarterback the coaching staff thought gave them the best chance to score points and win if they don’t score 26 or more points against the Chargers this Sunday.

Not only does this tell how poor Bridgewater has played with this offense, but it also shows that Fangio and Shurmur may have already picked their starting quarterback before the two had their “QB battle” in the offseason.

Scoring fewer points than three backups and a wide receiver as a quarterback this year is not a great look for Shurmur and Bridgewater.

Even though Bridgewater may have gotten hand-picked as the starting QB, this is a concerning stat regarding this year’s offense. It shows a lot about the decision-making the coaching staff has made up till now.

I highly recommend giving Benjamin Allbright a follow on Twitter as he is one of the most trustworthy guys when talking about the Broncos.

Denver travels to Los Angeles this Sunday and will try to sweep the Chargers and keep their playoff chances alive.
