The Denver Broncos have a stellar 2021 rookie class and another member who has been on ice might be about to get his shot.

The Denver Broncos’ stellar rookie class in 2021 has made significant contributions all season, and that doesn’t figure to change in Week 17 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

In fact, we might get the chance to see another Broncos rookie (or two) who hasn’t really been utilized at all this season. Not long after the team used a fifth-round pick on Texas safety Caden Sterns, who has played a big role this season, the Broncos doubled up on the safety position by taking Indiana’s Jamar Johnson.

Going into the 2021 NFL Draft process, most pundits had Johnson as the more highly-rated player.

Johnson, for the most part, has basically been redshirted this season for the Broncos. He played a baker’s dozen snaps on special teams against the Cincinnati Bengals a couple of weeks ago, but that’s it.

With Caden Sterns having to go on the COVID/reserve list as of Wednesday, Johnson might get a shot to play some actual defensive snaps on Sunday.

Denver utilized Nate Hairston in their dime package with Sterns out previously, but with just two games to play, why not see what you’ve got in Johnson and get him a bit of an expanded role there?

Even if it’s just more special teams, we should see Johnson activated this week in addition to fellow 2021 rookie Seth Williams at wide receiver with Tim Patrick also going on the COVID/reserve list.

Johnson made some nice plays in the preseason for the Broncos and excelled while he was at Indiana in coverage as well as when he was asked to blitz.

He would be a perfect one-week replacement for Sterns especially having already had the opportunity to get his feet wet a couple weeks ago against the Bengals.

The Denver rookie class of 2021 is deep, and it might be about to get even deeper.
