Denver Broncos head coach watchlist: Nathaniel Hackett, OC, Packers

Should the Denver Broncos consider hiring Nathaniel Hackett just because of his ties to Aaron Rodgers?

Yes.

But that’s certainly not the only reason.

Hackett has ascended among assistant coaches in the NFL in recent years and while Rodgers does love the guy (that is worth something, no question), teams are considering Hackett for more than just the fact that he works with the reigning NFL MVP.

Hackett is apparently one of the most energetic, focused assistant coaches the Packers’ current staff has ever seen.

Did I mention Aaron Rodgers loves him?

One thing the Denver Broncos really need is a head coach or offensive coordinator who can adapt to a variety of different types of quarterbacks. They need someone who is going to be able to have success in 2022 whether the Broncos acquire a guy like Rodgers or Russell Wilson, or whether they go with a middle-of-the-road veteran, or if they draft someone.

Hackett seems to be that guy.

He’s been to an AFC championship as the offensive coordinator for Blake Bortles in Jacksonville and he’s been to an NFC championship as the offensive coordinator for league MVP Aaron Rodgers.

Hackett has been around a variety of quarterbacks and the fact that Rodgers loves him is no small deal. It’s obviously not easy to get on Rodgers’ good side.

Did we mention that Hackett is, in fact, on Rodgers’ good side?

Imagine if the Denver Broncos were able to hire Hackett as their new head coach, what kind of implications that would have for the future at the quarterback position? It would certainly amplify the Rodgers talk and might even give that talk some substantial legs.

Hackett is only 41, he’s obviously done an outstanding job calling the offense in Green Bay and at his other NFL stops, and his players and fellow coaches love him.

The Broncos need a coach like that in the building and Hackett, as of right now, should be considered a primary target for Denver if they move on from Vic Fangio.
