Denver Broncos head coach watchlist: Doug Pederson, free agent

If you want to talk about candidates with some serious advantages, Doug Pederson is probably at the top of the list.

For one, he’s likely going to be one of the only candidates on the 2022 head coaching circuit who has won a Super Bowl as an NFL head coach.

That’s not a small thing.

Furthermore, Pederson has had the 2021 season off from coaching, but in his eagerness to get back, I suspect he’s been working towards building up a potential coaching staff for the 2022 season already.

So, when Pederson makes his pitch to teams in the interview process, he’s going to come with some of the most clarity of any candidate.

Plus, Pederson is expected to be selective about which job he takes next. Obviously, things didn’t end well with Pederson in Philadelphia, but it’s also arguable whether the Eagles moved on from him too soon.

The issue facing the potential of the Broncos luring a coach like Pederson? He likely will prefer a more stable situation at the quarterback position than the Broncos currently have in place.

George Paton could convince Pederson that the quarterback is coming, but there will be vacancies where the QB is already in place.
