The Denver Broncos are 7-7 with a shot at the playoffs. Drew Lock will make his first start of the 2021 season for the injured Teddy Bridgewater.

Drew Lock is making his first start of the 2021 season on Sunday as the Denver Broncos travel to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders for the second time this season.

Lock was the Broncos’ starting quarterback to finish off the 2019 season (his rookie year in the NFL) and he was the primary starting quarterback for the 2020 season.

In total, he has started 18 games throughout his career, but with what kind of success?

Drew Lock’s win/loss record as a starting NFL quarterback

As a starting quarterback in the NFL, Drew Lock has a record of 8-10 officially.

Unofficially, he only played 13 snaps against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2 of the 2020 season before going down with an injury on the second drive of the game with the score tied 0-0.

Because Lock didn’t play that entire game, it’s tough to really pin the loss on him so the Broncos are 8-9 in games Drew Lock starts and plays the majority or all of the snaps in.

Four of those wins came in Lock’s rookie season as the Broncos closed out the year strong, including a statement victory against the Houston Texans in Lock’s first (and historic) road start.

The 2020 season was a rollercoaster ride for Lock, including some very low lows. The worst game we’ve probably ever seen Drew Lock play was probably last season in Las Vegas against the Raiders where he threw four interceptions and also had a fumble.

People forget, however, that was not the most recent game Lock played against the Raiders. The Broncos actually lost a home game to the Raiders at the end of the 2020 season in which Lock helped post 31 points, including this memorable play to Jerry Jeudy:

This touchdown should have been a game-winner to close out the 2020 season, but the Raiders fought back, scored a touchdown, and converted the two-point play after the touchdown to win the game.

That game against the Raiders to close out the 2020 season was not only Lock’s most recent NFL start, it was one of only three starts among his first 18 in which he threw for over 300 yards and had a QB rating over 100.

In the month of December, Lock has a record of 5-5 as the starter of the Denver Broncos.

He’s got a career completion percentage of 58.8 percent with 4,180 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, 20 interceptions, and three rushing touchdowns.

The biggest issue for Drew Lock up to this point in his young career has been ball security. He not only has 20 career interceptions in 21 career games, but he also has 13 career fumbles. That lack of ball security has led to the Broncos’ coaching staff selecting Teddy Bridgewater as the team’s primary starter in 2021.

Lock now has the chance to write a new chapter of his story on Sunday in Las Vegas. How’s that going to go?
