Denver Broncos show the same old losing ways against Bengals

The Denver Broncos lost another game in the most Denver Bronco way possible on Sunday.  Things haven’t seemed to change since the team’s Super Bowl 50 victory.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before; the Denver Broncos played good defense, no, great defense, but the offense could not put up enough points to win.  The defense gave the offense multiple chances to stay in the game, but the offense could not capitalize, and they turned the ball over in a crucial spot too.

Yet again, the Denver Broncos did what they’re good at; they lost a close game because of their anemic offense.

The defense played a stellar game, holding the Bengals to just 15 points and under 300 total yards.

The defense kept the Bengals off the field as well–the Broncos also won the possession battle.  The Broncos also outgained Cincy but were still under 300 yards of total offense.

The team displayed a small sign of life after Teddy Bridgewater went down with a head and neck injury.  Drew Lock threw a long touchdown pass to Tim Patrick, which put the team ahead by 1.

Of course, since the Denver Broncos can’t get out of their own way, they promptly gave up a long touchdown pass on defense to allow Cincy to jump back into the lead.

The scoring ended after that, as the Broncos’ offense was not able to get anything going.

This loss is just another loss where the Vic Fangio-led defense held the opposing offense in check.  Yet again, the defense did their jobs and did them well.

In the team’s last three home games, they’ve allowed 13, 10, and 15 points respectively.  That isn’t good–that’s elite. Even though this loss was a heartbreaker, it’s no different than the way the team typically loses.

This is the same old Broncos team that they’ve been for years now.  This offense does not deserve this talented defense, and games like this really make it hard for me to advocate for firing Vic Fangio

Fangio didn’t have a perfect game, but his defense nearly did.

Hopefully, George Paton can swing for the fences and make a significant upgrade at the quarterback position this coming offseason.

Frankly, Paton is too smart and too talented to watch his team’s games and think that a major QB upgrade isn’t needed.

I do trust that Paton will find a genuine solution for the Denver Broncos, because this madness needs to stop.

This feels like I have no business saying this, but the Broncos are still firmly in the playoff race.  They’ll need to win out most likely, but they still have a chance.
