Though there is plenty to decide in the 2021 season for the Denver Broncos, it’s never too early to start forecasting the future.

Speculative talk about who will go where in the NFL is always fun to engage in and for the Broncos, the future is shrouded with questions. Most of those questions start at the top, ranging from the situation surrounding the team’s ownership to the head coach and of course, to the quarterback.

So let’s start with the quarterback position.

The Broncos have Teddy Bridgewater and Drew Lock. It seems clear that neither guy should be in the team’s future plans and many feel that a great quarterback could get this team all the way to the top.

There are options in the first round of this draft class such as Matt Corral and Kenny Pickett and even in the second round with Carson Strong. But the Broncos are not going to use a high pick on a quarterback in this draft and here’s why:

Broncos acquire Aaron Rodgers in a trade

The idea of Aaron Rodgers coming to Denver dominated talks this offseason when information leaked out that Rodgers wanted out of Green Bay. Though he and the Packers patched things up enough for him to stay there this season, George Paton is going to lure him away in 2022.

While Russell Wilson is also an option, it seems the Broncos and Rodgers have mutual interest and if the Broncos can acquire one of the best quarterbacks in league history, it needs to happen.

So here’s what the trade looks like:

The Broncos will be giving up four premium draft picks, but to get a guy like Rodgers, who is probably a top 10 quarterback in history, requires some sacrifice. The Broncos also send Lock to the Packers in the deal.

With this trade, the Broncos won’t have a pick in the upcoming draft until the third round, but Paton will choose to go this route rather than draft more prospects.

The Broncos need a strong quarterback and that has been the case for far too long. Rather than hoping a great option falls from a tree, Paton is going to jump on this chance.
