Denver Broncos: 4 cheaper options who could replace Melvin Gordon
Marlon Mack
Mack appeared to be on his way to becoming one of the best backs in the league after rushing for 908 yards and nine touchdowns in 2018 and 1,091 yards and eight touchdowns the following season. But a torn Achilles in the season opener in 2020 derailed all of that and Mack has yet to get back on the tracks.
Mack is still with the Indianapolis Colts, but the injury pushed him down the depth chart and out of favor with the team. The Colts now have possibly the best running back in the league in Jonathan Taylor and they don’t figure to put Mack back in the mix as he has carried the ball just five times this season.
Whether he’ll ever be the same or not remains to be seen, but he may not need to be if a team just wants to use him in a complementary role. He has a style that would work well in the same backfield as Williams as the Broncos could hit teams with a tremendous combination of their combined skills.
Obviously, any team that makes a move for Mack will need to know that he has a clean bill of health but his name was floated around quite a bit as the trade deadline came and went earlier in the season.
If the Broncos could get him for $2 million per year, it might be worth a shot.
