Demaryius Thomas’ 2014 Performance Against the Arizona Cardinals

Coming into the Denver Broncos’ matchup at home against the Arizona Cardinals, Demaryius Thomas had struggled in the first three weeks of the season, much to his frustration. However, all of that was forgotten as the Broncos would dismantle the Cardinals, 41-20.

Not only was it a record day for Thomas as a player, but it was also a record day for the franchise as well. Thomas finished the day with a career-high 226 yards and two touchdowns. He was targeted in the game 16 times.

This was not just a career record for the veteran receiver, it was also a franchise record for the Denver Broncos. On another side note, Thomas’ performance that day was also the most receiving yards by any player in the first five weeks of that 2014 season (per Bleacher Report).

There are plenty of impressive statistics from this performance by DT, but one of the most notable takeaways from this game was though DT was at the point in his career where he was constantly being bugged by minor, nagging injuries, he was able to prove that he was still an absolute nightmare for a secondary when he was playing his best football.

Even more so, at the time, the Cardinals secondary was boasted as one of the best in the league, with guys like Antonio Cromartie, and of course, star cornerback Patrick Peterson.

In a season that would end in frustration for the Denver Broncos and result in the firing of head coach John Fox, this was one of the most impressive victories of the season, all thanks to DT.
