Denver Broncos players to replace Diontae Spencer in the return game

2. Kerrith Whyte (practice squad RB)

The Denver Broncos made a fascinating practice squad pickup last week, acquiring former seventh-round pick Kerrith Whyte, a running back who has made brief appearances for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills.

Whyte actually returned 14 kickoffs for the Steelers in the 2019 season, ironically the year they’re  let Diontae Spencer go on waivers before he was claimed by the Denver Broncos.

Whyte was an outstanding kickoff returner at the college level, taking two back for touchdowns in his final two seasons at Florida Atlantic and racking up over 2,000 kickoff return yards in total.

With his blazing sub-4.4 speed in the 40-yard dash, Whyte is an explosive option who would give the Broncos a nice change of pace in the return game, at the very least.

Spencer is currently averaging a career-low 17.1 yards per kickoff return.

A player like Whyte could give the Broncos a game-changing play or two down the stretch of this season.
