A starting linebacker for the Denver Broncos in 2022 and beyond?

5. Josey Jewell, linebacker

It may not seem to make the most sense to re-sign a player on injured reserve while they are still in the recovery process, but it’s been done by the New England Patriots already this season.

Linebacker Raekwon McMillan tore his ACL during training camp but the Patriots wanted to ensure that he would be in their program for 2022, so they gave him a one-year contract extension basically on good faith.

The Denver Broncos could easily do the same with Josey Jewell, who went down early this season with a pectoral injury.

The former fourth-round pick out of Iowa has shown tremendous improvement over the last couple of seasons and looks like he’s going to be even better on his second contract in the NFL.

Jewell had started showing out as a tremendous blitzer from the linebacker position, and especially if the Broncos keep Vic Fangio, I love the idea of giving Jewell another opportunity to lead this defense alongside Baron Browning in 2022 and see how improved that level can be.
