Denver Broncos found much-needed EDGE depth

4. Stephen Weatherly, edge defender

The trade to acquire Stephen Weatherly from the Minnesota Vikings was not just the first trade between George Paton and his old boss Rick Spielman, it was a savvy move by Paton who likely knew the Von Miller move was coming.

Weatherly is not Von Miller, by any means, but he’s been getting the job done in the pass rush department with length, twitch, and high effort.

Plus, the guy just looks cool out there with his goggles under a helmet. You don’t see that often.

He’s got at least one QB hit in four out of his five games with the Denver Broncos already, as well as a pair of sacks and three tackles for loss.

Weatherly’s intensity and attitude off the edge make him an ideal number three or four in your rotation, and if the Broncos decided to bring him back for 2022, he would be an outstanding depth piece.

Re-signing Weatherly would give you a capable starting edge deep on the depth chart, and that’s something that clearly George Paton covets in his team-building process.
