The Denver Broncos had a chance to be in first place in the AFC West but instead, they are down in last place.

This comes after a crushing defeat at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs in which the Broncos didn’t even play that badly in terms of keeping the Chiefs off the scoreboard, they just didn’t do enough to help themselves.

One thing should be crystal clear after this game if you are part of the Denver Broncos’ front office or coaching staff and that is that Teddy Bridgewater is not going to be a guy that wins big games like this.

Aside from the two costly interceptions that Bridgewater threw, one of which was returned for a touchdown, he just drives you crazy watching him play quarterback, for a number of reasons.

For starters, he holds onto the ball way too long. He either doesn’t seem to sense that pressure or he just doesn’t process things quickly enough.

When he does throw the ball, it’s almost always a short check-down pass to a running back or tight end. Guys like Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy are never going to be major factors in an offense led by Bridgewater. He just doesn’t do enough to attack the defense and drive the ball down the field.

How many more times can we watch Bridgewater throw a 2-yard pass on 3rd-and-7? It’s maddening.

The thing is, we knew this about Bridgewater all along. It was never a mystery. But it’s frustrating that Vic Fangio thinks he can win games in this league with this type of offense. It’s just not going to happen, at least not enough.

Where will the Broncos’ future QB come from?

The Broncos desperately need a quarterback that can come in and make the most out of weapons like Sutton, Jeudy, Tim Patrick and Noah Fant. Who that remains to be seen, but finding that guy needs to be at the absolute top of the priority list.

Last week I conceded that Drew Lock is not the quarterback for this team, though that seems to have been decided some time ago by the organization. However, Bridgewater is not that guy either. That’s no longer debatable.

The team is going to stand in front of the media and talk about how this is just one game and that they are still well within the playoff hunt. But if you consider this team, with Bridgewater running the show, to be a Super Bowl contender, you’re kidding yourself.
