Travis Kelce can’t be contained

For years, opposing tight ends have had a field day against the Broncos, but none have enjoyed bigger games than the Chiefs’ Travis Kelce.

One of the league’s best tight ends, Kelce’s eyes likely light up whenever he sees that he has orange and blue jerseys on the other side of the field. Take a look at these statistics:

Kelce during 11-game winning streak against Broncos: 72 receptions, 940 yards, 5 TDs

He’s done that in 10 games as he sat out the season finale in December 2017. During this time, Kelce has gone over 100 yards five times and has had at least seven receptions in a game six times.

The Broncos were really only able to slow him down once and that came in October 2020. Kelce only had three receptions for 31 yards in that game but that is more because the Chiefs didn’t really need him.

Kansas City scored on a 50-yard interception return as well as a 102-yard kickoff. The Broncos managed to score just three points on the day.

It will be interesting to see how the Broncos attempt to match up against Kelce in this one. Both starting inside linebackers, Josey Jewell and Alexander Johnson, are out for the season. That will leave the responsibility on Baron Browning or Kenny Young. The Broncos could also opt to play more nickel and dime packages and bring an extra defensive back on the field, maybe the rookie Caden Sterns.

Whatever the case may be, keeping the damage Kelce does to a minimum will be paramount for Denver.
